Welcome to the Gibraltar Insurance Institute
Gibraltar has established itself as a leading financial services centre during the past 10 years with the number of regulated companies being licensed in Gibraltar increasing from 140 to 341 in that period. Insurance is a major employer in Gibraltar with well over 300 people now employed in the insurance industry – equivalent to over 1% of the population of Gibraltar. There is a tremendous mix of talent and experience in Gibraltar which is both 'home grown' and imported through migration to Gibraltar from the UK and elsewhere.
The need to harness this talent and expertise and to develop the skills of individuals through training and education was recognised and the Gibraltar Insurance Institute was born. Since formation in 2009, membership has increased to over 280 representing over 45 companies engaged in or supporting the financial services industry and the local insurance market in Gibraltar.
The GII has provided a mix of technical training courses, business briefings over breakfast and lunch and popular social events to enable members and non members alike to learn and develop and in turn help the insurance industry and the individuals engaged in it to grow in breadth and depth.
In February 2010, the GII submitted a formal application to the CII in London to join the CII "family" as an "Affiliated Institute". At the AGM held on 1 July 2010, the CII approved the CII application. Gibraltar became the first new affiliated Institute in over 30 years.
